2020 Windermere Cup-CANCELLED

The 2020 Windermere Cup was cancelled due to the current Stay Home order.

About the Regatta –

Windermere Real Estate and the University of Washington are excited to host the 34th annual Windermere Cup Regatta. Scheduled for Saturday, May 2nd, the regatta is held as part of Seattle’s Opening Day of Boating Season and is followed by the Seattle Yacht Club’s Opening Day Boat Parade. This year’s regatta will include 23 races featuring athletes ages 14-70. More than 1000 rowers earn a spot to compete in this prestigious event, which culminates with the women’s and men’s Windermere Cup races.

The annual spring rowing event takes place on the Montlake Cut and will also celebrate the beginning of boating season in Seattle with the Seattle Yacht Club’s Opening Day parade. The Windermere Cup races begin at 10:00am and the last race will take place at 11:45am. Attendees are welcome to watch the races along the north and south shores of the Montlake Cut, which are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The Montlake Bridge will also be closed to car traffic for attendees to view the races beginning at 9:40am. At noon, the canon will blast which signals the beginning of the Boat Parade. Between 12:30pm-2:00pm, there will be an awards ceremony on the JumboTron Stage on the North side of the Montlake Cut, west of the Montlake Bridge. To best plan your afternoon, you can view the complete schedule of events online.

University of Washington –

The University of Washington Department of Intercollegiate Athletics prides itself on excellence in every facet of operation. For the more than 650 student-athletes competing in 22 varsity sports, the standards are set high in competition, in the classroom, and beyond. Husky Crew exemplifies these values. The 34-year partnership the UW and Windermere Real Estate have developed through the annual Windermere Cup regatta is a strong one because of a mutual commitment to excellence. Husky UW Athletics is extremely pleased to be part of such a wonderful event and partnership and is looking forward to many more years to come.

Opening Day Boat Parade Schedule –

The Seattle Yacht Club partners with the University of Washington and Windermere Real Estate to put on the Opening Day of Boating Season, one of Seattle’s most-loved Spring traditions.

Many changes have taken place since the first Opening Day celebration in 1913, when the Montlake Cut opened Lake Washington to Lake Union. Today, Washington is one of the top ten boating states in America and the Seattle Yacht Club’s Opening Day Boat Parade is one of the biggest in the world.

The 2020 parade theme is Rock Around the Dock… a Celebration of Rock, Rhythm & Blues… and more.

Don’t miss out on this memorable community event! Though parking will be available, it is recommended to take the Metro, Light Rail or ride your bicycle down to the event. You can view directions and parking information online. We hope to see you there!
